Silica Sand

Silica sand is distinguished by its high chemical purity. The SiO2 contents range in excess of 99.5%. Silica has a high melting point, making it an ideal product for use in glass and foundries. For industrial and manufacturing applications, deposits of silica-yielding products of at least 95-99% SiO2 are preferred. Silica is hard, chemically inert, and has a high melting point, attributable to the strength of the bonds between the atoms.

Silica sand’s properties make it a versatile material with various applications across industries, including construction, manufacturing, and even in the production of semiconductors. Its high purity, thermal stability, and resistance to chemical reactions make it particularly valuable in many industrial processes.

General properties of silica sand:

Property Description
Composition Primarily composed of silicon dioxide (SiO2)
Color Typically white or colorless, but can vary in hue
Texture Granular, often with a gritty feel
Hardness Relatively high hardness (Mohs scale 7)
Grain Size Wide range of grain sizes, from fine to coarse
Purity High silica content, often exceeding 98% SiO2
Melting Point High melting point (approximately 1,710°C or 3,110°F)
Density Relatively high density (around 2.65 g/cm³)
Chemical Inertness Chemically inert, stable in most environments
Thermal Stability Excellent thermal stability, resistant to heat
Abrasive Properties Abrasive, used in sandblasting and abrasive applications
